Who's Who in the First Family of Star Wars

Members of the Skywalker family are the heroes of Star Wars saga, from the Prequel Trilogy and beyond. As the first two trilogies were released decades apart and more movies are to come, it pays to take a look at the family tree at the core of this story.

Shmi Skywalker

Born 72 BBY. Died 22 BBY on Tatooine.
The Skywalker line began with Shmi Skywalker, a slave on Tatooine, who conceived a child under mysterious circumstances -- perhaps by the will of the Force. Her son, Anakin Skywalker, became one of the most powerful Jedi ever known. Shmi was later sold to Cliegg Lars, who gave her freedom and married her. She died in Anakin's arms after being tortured by Tusken Raiders. His fit of rage against the raiders was the beginning of his journey to the Dark Side of the Force.

Anakin Skywalker

Born 41.9 BBY. Died 4 ABY on Death Star II over Endor.
Because the Jedi Order forbade attachment, Anakin married Padmé Amidala in secret. She died in childbirth, and her twin children, Luke and Leia, were adopted.

Leia Amidala Skywalker - Leia Organa Solo

Born 19 BBY
Leia grew up as the child of Queen Breha of Alderaan and Bail Organa, her prince consort. She later became a leader in the Rebel Alliance and married the former smuggler Han Solo. They had three children: the twins Jaina and Jacen, and their younger brother Anakin. After Jacen's death, they adopted his daughter Allana.

Luke Skywalker

Born 19 BBY
Luke grew up on Tatooine, raised by his father's step-brother Owen and his wife Beru. He went on to become a Jedi Master and refound the Jedi Order. He married Mara Jade, the former Emperor's Hand. They had one child, Ben.

Ben Skywalker

Born 26.5 ABY. He was taught by his father and by Jacen Solo, becoming a powerful Jedi. The exact generations and characters between Ben Skywalker and Cade Skywalker, the protagonist of Star Wars: Legacy, are as yet unknown.

Further Generations of the Skywalker Lineage

The lineage beyond this point is drawn from books, graphic novels, and other sources but may not yet have been depicted in the movies of the series. The movies may accept these details as canon and use them as previously published. But there is always a chance that the movies may vary and establish a new canon.

Jacen Solo - Darth Caedus

Born 9 ABY on Coruscant. Died 41 ABY
Jacen was apprenticed to Luke Skywalker. He had a daughter, Allana, with Tenel Ka Djo. He descended to the Dark Side and to Sith Mastery as Darth Caedus before being killed.

Jaina Solo

Born 9 ABY. Romantically linked to Jagged Fel. It's possible that the Solo family continues with the characters Roan and Marasiah Fel in Star Wars: Legacy. The Fel line descends from Jagged Fel, Jaina Solo's fiancé in Fate of the Jedi. This connection has not yet been confirmed.
