Origins:

Creator Joss Whedon (Buffy, Firefly) fleshed out the idea for the show over coffee with Eliza Dushku, who had previously co-starred in Buffy. The initial treatment and pilot met with resistance from the network, causing delays in production as Whedon reimagined the series.

Key 'Dollhouse' Characters:

At the center of this activity is Echo (Eliza Dushku), the Dollhouse's most adept operative. Meanwhile the FBI, led by agent Paul Ballard, is tracking down rumors of the Dollhouse, hoping to shut it down and arrest those involved. Whedon has indicated that while viewers will be introduced to the Dollhouse via Echo, other "dolls" will also occupy the forefront.

Flavor of 'Dollhouse':

Not as dark as Whedon would have liked, and less jokey that some of Whedon's previous efforts, Dollhouse still strives to push the series envelope and combines the mission-of-the-week action with complex exploration of what it means to be human when your identity is controlled by others.
