It was announced ages ago that Merlin, a reimagining of the Merlin/King Arthur with the protagonists as cocksure young men just discovering their destinies, would be part of the NBC line-up after first appearing on the BBC.

Now, NBC has finally set a date for the show's stateside appearance: the 13 episodes of the first season, which aired starting in September on BBC1, will begin running on NBC on June 21.

Merlin stars Colin Morgan (who appeared in season 4 of Doctor Who) as the gifted young sorcerer who comes to befriend the arrogant prince, Arthur (Bradley James). Unfortunately, Arthur's father, Uther Pendragon (Anthony Head), is opposed in principle to all forms of magic – he's even imprisoned the last dragon!

Merlin was launched as a sort of cousin to Doctor Who: both shows are produced in association with BBC Wales, whose head of drama, Julie Gardner, has indicated a heavy influence of Russell T. Davies's style on the new show. Merlin, like Doctor Who, also has its special effects done by The Mill.

Merlin has garnered strong ratings in a competitive timeslot; a second season was ordered in December and is currently beginning production for broadcast on BBC1 in the fall. Presumably, since NBC purchased the rights to Merlin as a whole, season 2 will appear in America sometime after that, probably in 2010.

I was waiting for the moment that Merlin would take off his shirt because these tween shows always do that, but I forgot that it was a BBC show and not a CW show… and then when he did he wasn’t ripped and muscular as expected but still puppy like and cute. he looks like a small brother of smallville’s Clark Kent. the costumes are a bit not in place and the special effects can use some work but its okay. :)
