A ten-part series of Battlestar Galactica webisodes entitled "Face of the Enemy" begins showing on Friday, December 12 at noon Eastern time on the show's official website.
The series stars Alessandro Juliani (Felix Gaeta) and Grace Park (Sharon/Boomer).
"Face of the Enemy" takes place shortly after the first half of season 4 ended, and seeks to play on the ambivalence that humans are feeling toward Cylons now that the appearance of the hidden Cylons and the human/Cylon alliance has made things more complicated than the simple us versus them it used to be.
According to the official description, the webisodes follow Lieutenant Gaeta as he is sent off in a raptor with a handful of strangers. When one of them mysteriously dies, suspicions and fear take hold in the restrictive confines of a raptor full of unfamiliar faces. As more passengers die under puzzling circumstances, those who remain must ask themselves if a Cylon is responsible for the deaths, or if it is one of their own -- a human.
Webisodes for genre TV series tend to vary between the irrelevant (Chuck) and the disappointing (Heroes). Galactica webisodes have had a better track record; in particular, "The Resistance," set on New Caprica leading into season 3 (shown in August 2006), were integral to the series and set the tone for the show, preparing viewers for the destructive decisions that Tigh makes against the Cylon occupation force.
Though "Face of the Enemy" has only a few name-brand cast members, it may similarly prepare us for the plot points of season 4.5. And Gaeta has been criminally underused of late, though at least we discovered he has a hauntingly beautiful singing voice after he lost part of his leg on board the Demetrius. (As Laura Roslin said, what a way to find out.)
Meanwhile, internet gossip – that unassailably reliable source of information – is giddily reporting an unexpected coupling among the supporting cast will be revealed in the webisodes (link here – spoiler warning!). Hopefully, "Face of the Enemy" will be more useful than that, but a little romance isn't a terrible thing either.
