Fans of Stargate Atlantis's irascible Scottish medical officer, Carson Beckett (Paul McGillion), who was killed off in January, plan to rally at ComicCon in San Diego on July 27 to make sure that producers and network execs know just how outraged they still are.
The popular character's death was all the more startling because it came at the end of an idyllic, off-duty episode called "Sunday," the 17th episode of the spin-off's third season. While many agree the episode itself was well-written and beautifully executed, fans worldwide immediately reacted negatively to the finality with which Beckett was written out. And many fans seemingly aren't satisfied with half-measures, either: This rally comes after producers announced they were bringing Beckett back for two episodes late in the show's upcoming season 4. Organizers of the website SaveCarsonBeckett.com have pledged "to keep fighting until the character and actor is back, permanently."
What are the prospects for the Carson Beckett movement? Now that Jericho's been brought back from the dead, will the decisionmakers be more amenable to fan pressure – or will they want to send the message that the suits, not the fans, call the shots in the sci-fi universe?

This is actual our second protest, and we will make this event as humorous as the rally in Vancouver. But no matter how funny and peaceful we keep our campaign, we still will fight until he comes back.

It’s great to see people showing true support for a character like Carson Beckett. They’ve openly admitted that he was made a regular because of fan support, so hopefully they’ll remember that the core fans are their real bread and butter. And I don’t know of a single fan who was happy to see Carson go. I hope the campaign folks are heard at Comic Con.
Cheers!

I cannot imagine anyone who loves the character of Carson the way I do being “satisfied” with only two episodes in Season 4.
I am already dreading the long wait until we see him again. We need to know Stargate Atlantis will be back for a Season 5 with Paul as main cast.
I too want to see Carson return as a main cast member. It’s great they are bringing him back in season 4 but two episodes isn’t enough. Lets see him return for good in season 5. The show isn’t quite right with Carson missing.

It’s a shame that good storytelling became a casualty in a war of pride and the battle for the bottom line. That’s the true casualty of Sunday.
It’s also the subtext of the Save Carson campaign; bring back the beloved character, and bring back good storytelling with him.
Carson Beckett was such a beloved character and added so much to the show with his compassion and care. A male character who doesn’t deny his feelings is an extremely rare kind; this uniqueness on TV in general was mercilessly robbed from us for pure and simple shock value. And ‘Stargate: Atlantis’ is so much poorer for this loss!
We need him back as a regular, but what is more, the show needs him back as a regular.
Carson for season five, to infinity and beyond!
I’m not a regular watcher of SG:At because I’m not a diehard SG fan. But one of the episodes I happend upon what the “Sunday” episode where Beckett was killed off. He was the only reason why I watched the show. The other characters were stock, he was the unique part of the show, the part that wasn’t “SG:Recycled”. They lost a viewer, albeit a sporadic one. When I have a choice between SG:A and something else from now on I’ll choose the something else. At least until Beckett comes back.

Going through the links I had a thought: This sure sounds/looks/feels just like the fiasco with Daniel a few years back. I always felt that was a ploy by the studio to get fans physically involved with their show, to keep it ignighted. I’m wondering if this isn’t a similar thing. I has to be. Why? Because they have to have learned their lesson with Daniel if that debacle wasn’t a calculated plan in the first place.
My six drachmas,

I never thought of myself as a conspiracy theorist in general but I have to agree with Rose. Unfortunately, I never came back to SG-1 as passionately after season 6. See the same with SGA-I’ll be back for 2 episodes next season.
