It somehow seems appropriate that Supernatural should have outlived all the other network genre shows by a long margin: after all, Dean and Sam, who were such fresh and eager warriors in seasons 1 and 2, have now seen (and lived through, and died through) it all, and their fight against evil is more painfully engrossing that ever because of it. For season 8, there will be another change of hands: Jeremy Carver will take over as showrunner from Sara Gamble, who took the reins from creator Eric Kripke.
Airs: Wednesdays at 9 p.m. Eastern on The CW.
Premiere: Oct. 3.
