Since Supernatural follows the Fugitive format, the main constants from week to week are the brothers themselves. Fans of the show tend to gravitate toward one or the other: Dean is harder-edged, more gung ho, and tends to cut through to what needs to be done; Sam is curious, questioning, and more immediately accessible. Not to be forgotten is the other regular presence in the show -- Dean's well-used but beloved 1967 black Chevrolet Impala.

The complex dynamic between the two brothers, who are dealing with having been raised to be demon-hunters, is immensely important to making the show work, and both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki turn in rock-solid performances that constantly deepen their relationship and sense of mission. Supernatural is interested in the nature of evil and people's perceptions of it, which adds heft to the dark side of the show and therefore makes the brewing war between good and evil more substantial.
