'Primeval' - Cast and Characters

A brilliant scientist, specializing in the investigation of gaps in the evolutionary record. His wife, Helen, disappeared eight years earlier in an unexplained incident. Theirs was a stormy relationship and they were estranged at the time, which still makes him feel guilty. Cutter has physical courage, and once got a creature to bite him so that he could draw the venom to save Stephen. The Scottish-born Henshall is a well known stage actor with a number of film credits as well, including Lawless Heart.

With the ability to track almost any animal, Stephen is Cutter's reliable right-hand man and research assistant. His courage often puts him in highly dangerous situations. (When faced with tracking a huge and dangerous dinosaur, Connor says to him in the first episode that Stephen was the "great hunter" and Connor was "backup.") Murray was previously known for the hairdressers' series Cutting It.

A super-bright student whose enthusiasm prompts Cutter to investigate the first sightings. His knowledge of dinosaurs is second to none, but his social skills leave a lot to be desired. His youthful exuberance can get him into trouble. He knows a lot about sci-fi, too, and can be a bit of a conspiracy theorist.

Skeptical and sharp-witted, Claudia is an official from the Ministry of Science and Technology delegated to investigate the same mystery creature sightings that interested Cutter. Her cold exterior belies her deep passions. She and Cutter develop a close friendship, but his unresolved feelings towards Helen are a major handicap to romance. Claudia is lost in a timeline shift at the end of the first series but is replaced by an analog named Jenny Lewis (also played by Lucy Brown).

A reptile expert from London Zoo, Abby crosses paths with Cutter and his team when she investigates an odd lizard adopted by a boy as a pet. She joins forces with them and quickly forms a strong bond with Stephen. She's impetuous and very fond of one small prehistoric lizard in particular, whom she tried to keep secret from the others. Spearritt was one of the performers in the pop group S Club.

Cutter’s wife was thought to be dead, but she has been time-traveling through the anomalies. Her reasons for returning are unclear -- she seems indifferent to the danger she poses to mankind, but could she still be in love with Nick?

Claudia's obnoxious boss at the Home Office distrusts her almost as much as he distrusts Cutter. The devious bureaucrat is prepared to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. Miller was in The Prince and Me and has been in a number of series including Moving Wallpaper.

During the first six episode, the laconic Captain Tom leads the team of soldiers supporting Cutter and the other scientists and defending them and innocent bystanders against all manner of monsters.
