Official Summary:
Beachwood High is holding its annual "Hands On A Hybrid" fundraiser. To play, each contestant puts their hands on a hybrid car and the last one to remove them, wins. Naturally, with their supernatural powers, Kyle and Jessi are soon the only ones left. But their energy literally brings down the house. Now neither can deny that there’s a deep connection between them, one they are eager to explore. Back at the Tragers, Kyle tells Jessi, "We’re more alike than you think." Then he lifts his shirt to show his lack of a belly button. As Jessi does the same, Amanda walks in, stunned to think that Kyle can’t be trusted.
Key Moments:
Jessi has been preprogrammed to want Kyle, but is still freaked out when he reveals he can read her mind -- which is interesting. In one of the most contrived moments of the season, Hillary, who was rapidly approaching plotline obsolescence, suddenly decides to become an investigative reporter so that the it can later be discovered that Jessi was the one who attacked Lori (she's on video holding the stolen necklace).
Cute Trager Family Drama of the Week:
Andy, in a fight with Josh, outs herself as having cancer; later she accepts both everyone knowing and Josh being there to help, and they make out. Aww.
Biggest Mystery:
Okay, considering that he's a genius, how
dumb is Kyle? He knows his girlfriend is at this event, and yet he starts fondling belly-buttonless abdomens in the first aid with the girl Amanda's already jealous of? And then he lays a line on her that coming from any other guy would be a total lie ("We were just talking")? Kyle asks her to trust him, and she says that's just what Charlie said. Two points for Amanda. As for Kyle: did he leave his brains in is other pants?
Bottom Line: Worth Watching?:
I'm not sure whose idea it was to build an episode around the idea of spending a day touching a car (which sounds oddly fetishistic when it's put that way), or why Josh would think Kyle could use his powers to win this kind of a contest. It's important for the "wow, we both don’t have belly buttons!" moment, but otherwise the Amanda stuff
and the Hillary stuff is the weakest, most off-the-shelf material to date.
