What It's About: Kyle (Matt Dallas) is a teenage boy who woke up in the woods with no memory, no social skills, and no navel. Taken in by a friendly family, the Tragers, Kyle discovers that he has unusual intelligence, reflexes, and other abilities as he slowly peels apart the mystery of his past. Kyle now knows he was created by Adam Baylin in a cloning experiment. Though concerned for their safety, Kyle has returned to the Tragers so he wouldn't be alone. But Adam's corporate partners, Madacorp, control a second clone (called Jessi XX) and want to reclaim their "asset," Kyle; while Adam's friend Foss may not be what he appears.
Origins: Kyle XY was created for television by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber, who co-wrote and co-directed The Butterfly Effect.
Popular Characters: The entire Trager family is warm, endearing, and a bit too good to be true, so that when they mess up a little, the show expects you to love them even more -- and the actors (especially Marguerite MacIntyre as Nicole, and, increasingly, April Matson as Lori) are strong enough that it usually works. Lori's on-again, off-again boyfriend, Declan (Chris Olivero), is positioned to be a breakout heartthrob, but Olivero keeps too much in reserve and we never get to know him as well as we do the Tragers. Jessi (Jaimie Alexander) and her leash-holder Emily (Leah Cairns) are slowly making impression.
Flavor: Charming. The plots balance Kyle's integration into the Trager everyday family dynamic with the looming menace of Madacorp, which is nice actually: it feels like you've moved in with them as a boarder and you're exposed to the ordinary problems of a family that happens to include a nascent hero.
Network: Kyle XY is shown on ABC Family. For showtimes see When It's On.
