The nominations for the 68th annual Golden Globes, awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, were announced Dec. 15.

Two major sci-fi/fantasy successes on the film side are reflected in the nominees: Inception, its screenplay, and its director, Christopher Nolan, were nominated for Golden Globes -- but the film received no acting nods. Meanwhile Alice in Wonderland and its star, Johnny Depp, were nominated -- but not its director, Tim Burton. Both were nominated for their scores.

Animated film is a crowded field this year -- crowded enough that Shrek Forever After was crowded aside by genre nominees Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon, Toy Story 3, and Tangled.

But major notice among films is balanced by a complete shut-out on the TV side, with no nominations at all for sci-fi or fantasy series for the current year. Though props go to two close cousins: the horror series The Walking Dead was nominated, as was the sci-fi friendly sitcom The Big Bang Theory.

The 2011 ceremony will take place Sunday, Jan. 16.
