34. John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness


A con man from the 51st century who finds himself helping the Doctor, becoming brave and dependable almost despite himself. Killed by the Daleks, Jack is suddenly brought back to life by Rose, who temporarily possesses control over space and time, and eventually realizes that he is immortal -- Rose made him a "fact" in the universe. Becomes head of Torchwood 3 in Cardiff, tasked with protecting Earth from alien threats by using alien technology. Ninth, Tenth Doctors. 30. Sophie Aldred as Ace


An ordinary girl from Perivale with a boundless enthusiasm and a love for high explosives. Encountered by the Doctor on Iceworld, where she was blown after some sort of cosmic storm. She carries a ghetto blaster and shouts "Ace!" when excited, but discovers young womanhood as the Doctor actively places her in situations that test her character. Still traveling with the Doctor when the original series ends. Seventh Doctor. Stories as a companion include: "Dragonfire", "Remembrance of the Daleks", "The Happiness Patrol", "Silver Nemesis", "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy", "Battlefield", "Ghost Light", "The Curse of Fenric", "Survival".

29. Bonnie Langford as Melanie "Mel" Bush


A perky health nut who pushes the Doctor to exercise and eat right. Her arrival in the Doctor's life is unclear, since she's first seen in a story set in the Sixth Doctor's future. She leaves to travel with the space pirate Glitz. Sixth, Seventh Doctors. 28. Nicola Bryant as Peri Brown


An American botany student rescued from drowning by Turlough, and then accidentally brought along when Kamelion takes the ship to Sarn. Contrary and strong-minded, she spends much of her time with the Sixth Doctor in perpetual argument, but they are both quite fond of each other. Apparently killed to provide a host for a slug-like villain, though the Time Lord Inquisitor later claims she survived and became a warrior queen. Fifth, Sixth Doctors. 27. Gerald Flood* as Kamelion


A sentient android susceptible to control by the wills of others, and capable of shape-shifting into the human form required of it by whoever is controlling it. Taken from the Master to foil the latter's plot to prevent Magna Carta, Kamelion never freed himself from his link with the Master and in the end brought the Doctor to the Master. Kamelion begged the Doctor kill him as the only way to free himself. The Doctor complied. Fifth Doctor. Stories as a companion include: "The King's Demons", "Planet of Fire".

26. Mark Strickson as Vislor Turlough


Exile from the planet Trion, living as a British schoolboy on Earth. Agrees to help the Black Guardian against the Doctor in exchange for a return home, but balks when he gets to know the Doctor and ultimately rejects the Black Guardian despite the temptation of power. Returns to his people on learning his exile was rescinded. Fifth Doctor. Stories as a companion include: "Mawdryn Undead", "Terminus", "Enlightenment", "The King's Demons", "The Five Doctors", "Warriors of the Deep", "The Awakening", "Frontios", "Resurrection of the Daleks", "Planet of Fire".

25. Janet Fielding as Tegan Jovanka


Australian flight attendant who wanders into the TARDIS after her car suffers a flat nearby. The Doctor seems to find her by turns irritating and bracing (she calls herself "a mouth with legs") but believes she has it in her to keep their group together. Leaves after the bloody encounter with the Daleks. Fourth, Fifth Doctors.
