Also on Sanctuary, Heyerdahl plays Bigfoot -- a connection not played up in the early publicity materials, which concentrated on Heyerdahl's presence as Druitt and didn't dwell on his additional role as Magnus's hairy right hand at Sanctuary.
The baseline for Bigfoot is "gentle giant," but neither the writers not Heyerdahl were willing to stop there. As bodyguard, butler, chauffeur, and generals oddjobsman to Magnus, Bigfoot represents pure reliability; but he's also a friend and confidant. Nonetheless Bigfoot's open heart makes it possible to come into conflict with Magnus when their friendship is tested (and, ultimately, proven). “The writers have taken Biggie in so many new and unexpected directions this season, and that’s always a joy to play,” Heyerdahl said in an interview, looking back on Sanctuary's season 4.
