Collision Earth (2012)

Collision Earth
Anchor Bay Entertainment

Kirk Acevedo from Oz and Fringe, among other gigs, leads the cast of Collision Earth, the latest in a long run of Syfy original disaster movies. This time the appalling mistakes involve a profound misunderstanding of astrophysics rather than of geology or meteorology, but director Paul Ziller is acquiring a reputation for decently paced action/destruction films that are diverting enough if you unplug your brain for a while.
Formats: Blu-Ray and DVD.
The story: When a massive comet strikes the Sun, it knocks Mercury out of orbit and sends it hurtling towards Earth. But each day the now-magnetized planet gets closer, it triggers gravitational chaos around the world: Flaming meteors crash into the ground. Automobiles are sucked into the sky. And the worst is still to come. Can a disgraced scientist and the lone surviving crewmember on a crippled space shuttle stop this Extinction Level Event by re-activating the top-secret planetary defense system known as 'Project 7'?
Starring: Kirk Acevedo, Diane Farr, Chad Krowchuk, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Adam Greydon Reid, Andrew Airlie, David Lewis, Catherine Lough Haggquist, Kevan Ohtsji, Juan Riedinger.
Directed by: Paul Ziller (Stonehenge Apocalypse, Metal Shifters, etc.).
Features: None listed.
