The Last Ship--TNT's Michael Bay-produced adaptation of the William Brinkley novel about a naval destroyer whose crewmembers discover they are among the few survivors of a worldwide Armageddon, has gained a star: Eric Dane, the big, genial actor forever to be remembered as Grey's Anatomy's McSteamy, aka Mark Sloan (he has been in other things, though when it comes to genre stuff it's been pretty forgettable--X-Men 3, a recurring role on Charmed, etc.). Dane will star in the pilot as Tom Chanler, the commanding officer of the USS Nathan James who is married with two young daughters. The pilot is written by Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane.

Witches of East End--Previously we've heard part of the casting for Lifetime's plunge into the world of supernatural estrogen, and last week a few more familiar names were added to cast. Joining Julia Ormond (matriarch Joanna Beauchamp), Jenna Dewan-Tatum (older, wilder daughter Freya), Rachel Boston (conservative daughter Ingrid), and Patrick Heusinger (Dash, Freya's rich fiance) will be Glenne Headly as Penelope, Dash's mum, and Madchen Amick in a guest starring role as star as another witch, Wendy, Joanna "beautiful and funny" sister.
