MTV hasn't just renewed Teen Wolf, they've renewed the hell out of it.

Not only is MTV ordering a third season of the hit werewolf drama--the first time they've ever given a scripted series a third season--they're dramatically expanding their commitment to the show. For seasons 1 and 2 MTV plumped for a dozen episodes, but this time they've doubled their order to 24.
For MTV, this show is drawing exactly the audience they covet and in spades. "Teen Wolf represents a terrific foray into the scripted world for the millennial MTV audience, and marks tremendous success in the continued diversification of our schedule," David Janollari, Head of MTV Programming, said in a press release. "Renewing the show for a third season celebrates the creative vision of Executive Producer Jeff Davis and the remarkable talent of the cast who bring this bona fide fan favorite to life."
Teen Wolf currently draws 1.8 million total viewers each week, boffo numbers for MTV. But more importantly it has consistently won its Mondays at 10 p.m. timeslot against all other channels in the 12-34 demo since the series premiere. Teen Wolf has been the #1 show in its time period among teens during both season 1 and season 2 so far. On the social front, Teen Wolf is, not surprisingly, also big on teens' social media sites, ranking weekly as one of the most social shows on cable, according to Trendrr.
The best part is that low expectations for the show, which shares only its name with the lame Michael J. Fox movie, exploded into surprise and enthusiastic fan following. Its writing and performances are not only high-octane but betray both depth and long-term planning, ditching weekly disposable conflicts for long-term arcs with developing pay-offs. Now if only they would do something about the fact that, especially when it comes to the new additions for season 2, all their supposedly teenage high-school students look like they probably have mortgages and a second kid on the way...
