Patrick Wilson: still waiting to hear?

There's limbo, and then there's the ultima thule of limbo: CBS made a big announcement that included the renewal of no fewer than fifteen series, from 60 Minutes to 2 Broke Girls, but pointedly made no mention of A Gifted Man one way or the other.

After months of speculation, CBS is stringing this worthy drama along to an extent that's almost cruel. If I were Patrick Wilson, the back of my neck would be itching, so long has that axe been hovering and waiting to strike; and yet there's something that's held them back from making the announcement, stoking the unbridled hopes of the show's devoted fans even as the show's supporting cast makes contingency plans.

There's no telling what the cast and crew have actually been told at this point, but as for the rest of us: we're waiting.

Another television season has almost come and gone and I wonder, AGAIN, why I bother watching any shows. It was bad enough when I read that the BBC canceled the fantastic period drama Garrow’s Law last month leaving, I suspect, the love story between Will and Sarah dangling in dour oblivion not to mention abandoning one of the most addictive series I’ve seen in years . Reading this further unwelcome stalling as to the fate of one of the rare American series worth watching, A Gifted Man, is just as deplorable.

Actually, we do know what the cast has been told. Nothing. Both Patrick Wilson (@patrickwilson73) and Rachelle Lefevre (@RachelleLefevre) tweeted that they have been told nothing. Wilson figures it won’t be “cancelled,” it just won’t be renewed when the new schedule is announced in May. But both of them don’t believe it will be renewed.
