Fox has ordered a pilot for Working Class Hero, set in a world where superheroing is just another low-paid government job and centers on a dad whose powers are no match for his misfit superhero co-workers and his demanding family.
The dad will be voiced by comedian Patton Oswalt, who wowed audiences as the voice of Remy in Ratatouille and who seems to show up as a character actor in just about everything, from Blade: Trinity to Caprica. He's recently received a good deal of notice for his supporting role in Young Adult opposite Charlize Theron.
Working Class Hero is being executive produced by American Dad co-creator/executive producer Mike Barker, who co-write the pilot with fellow Dad staffers Brent Woods and Jordan Blum.
The talent behind the show is certainly impressive, but the whole everyday-superheroes thing isn't as fresh as it used to be. Barker and company will need to find a new angle on the material for Working Class Hero to have something special going for it. Here's hoping.
