The Divide (2012)
Remember when postapocalyptic movies were unusual enough that seeing the industrial world as a blasted wasteland (think Mad Max or A Boy and His Dog) was kind of a thrill in and of itself? Now there's one every month, which means that the thrills have to come from something else--in this case, an unnerving slow reveal of humankind's true nature as more feral than fraternal. The interesting and gutsy cast includes Michael Biehn, Milo Ventimiglia, Rosanna Arquette, and Lauren German. The story: Survivors of a nuclear attack are grouped together for days in the basement of their apartment building, where fear and dwindling supplies wear away at their dynamic. Directed by Xavier Gens (Hitman). Note: The version coming out this month is a limited release of the unrated director's cut.
