Starz has released the first full trailer for Torchwood: Miracle Day, the fourth season of the Doctor Who spin-off and the first under the transatlantic partnership between BBC Wales and the Starz cable channel--and it looks pretty fantastic.

Mekhi Phifer, Bill Pullman, and Alexa Havins all come across well, and the storyline is just as epic as last time yet it's told manageably through personal stories and the increasing desperation of the Torchwood team and the people they encounter. John Barrowman is still the inimitable Captain Jack, energized by helping those in distress despite having seen more than any around him could imagine.

Best of all, Eve Myles, as you can see from the image at right (and there's more in the trailer), is given some kick-ass material and more than steps up to the plate. I've always loved Myles's take on Gwen, and I love it more and more every year.

Torchwood: Miracle Day premieres on Starz July 8.

Not watching this show anymore since they killed Ianto Jones just for shock value.

Weeks ago it was said as a joke that the Teflon Tart would have the baby in one hand and a big gun in the other.

Some joke.

I don’t think Ianto’s death was just for shock value. He was a great character and will be missed. I will watch the new season.

Nope not watching. And not only because of Ianto. There’s a long list of things and characters this show has lost, Owen, Tosh, Ianto, Cardiff, Wales, Myfanwy, the Weevils, the Hub, the SUV, hell even Jack (because CoE turned him into a totally different character).

But if after all that I would have still been willing to give it a try… THAT picture above would have put me off. Firing a gun with a baby on her arm? *headdesk* Not watching just turned into wouldn’t even watch if somebody woud pay me for it.

sitting on the fence-the original TW had superb acting from relative unkown actors who created a charismic chemistry-unfotunately Gwen was for me the least appealing-at times overwritten-not sure bring American starts in will enable that raw interaction-and Gwen the warrior mother would be less laughable if she was not holding her baby in the line of fire.Niether does the high octane action and explosions appeal-Once you had taken out the shock elements in COE ther was really only a shell of what TW was and on rewatching it actually felt quite repetitious and clichéd-like the nod to DW

Not really interested. Torchwood died a long time ago. This is a new show. Gwen was my least favorite character and it makes me ill that she’s shooting a gun and holding her child. Not interested in American characters or flashy explosions.

The more I see of the advertising for this the less I’m interested. Don’t like American TV at the best of times and it’s sad to see a great Brit show sell out like this. Also the only remaining characters are the two I liked least, not much there to lure me back either. The first two series of Torchwood were a breath of fresh air, an innovative, irreverent, sexy romp. The Children of Earth mini series I didn’t care for so much, not really the Torchwood I’d enjoyed and really it could have been any generic sci fi show at all that the Torchwood characters were shoe-horned into. Now it’s gone one step further and moved itself into the realm of US shoot bang tripe with it seems to revolting Gwen the main character. Nope, can’t see me watching this drivel at all, there’s so much good TV happening in Britain just now I wouldn’t waste my precious free time on it.

Don’t want to watch this new series. This american reboot lacks the magic and charm of the original. And seriously this picture of Gwen with a gun in one hand and her baby in the other is ridiculous.

The only way I will be watching the new season is when it is on iTunes or on DVD. I will NOT purchase a premium channel to watch a show no matter how great it is.

I agree with those who commented that Torchwood sold out to American TV!

Re: Gwen and Baby. She just rescued her baby from the bad guys, who are now in hot pursuit, and so what is she supposed to do, throw the baby down? She has been cornered, and needs to be ready to run the instant there’s an opening. I really do not understand what other possible scenario could be inferred – I mean, do you think she brings her baby to work with her? Sheesh.

Now, personally, I always liked Gwen and the gap in her teeth. To me, from the first episode, the show was about Gwen and Jack, and has remained that way. Also, I see nothing in the trailer that makes me think Jack is a totally different character. Having said that, I was very-super-bummed that everyone else died. I liked that team. And my big disappointment with the new series is that it isn’t in Cardiff anymore. It won’t be the same to me.

Re: Children of Earth. I found it way intense, loved it, and found myself bawling my eyes out the final episode. Very disturbing commentary on … well, humans, I guess. A very different direction from other seasons, but it still worked for me.

Regarding Americans and explosions. As a victim of American TV, I probably do have a much higher tolerance for explosions and stuff. However, I am hoping that all of those explosions from the trailer are for the first episode, to start the season off with a …. um …. (well, bang). If it turns out to be another show like 24 and if Jack is another …. um Jack, where there are a dozen explosions per episode, I don’t think the new Torchwood will work for me either.

Not all American TV is horrible, although admittedly, most of the good shows are on pay channels. And I have seen plenty of shows where huge changes happen, and it is able to settle into its own fabulosity. I have to have confidence that the total change in venue, setting, style, etc. will be well-executed. Why? Because I want to believe that it will be – I miss Torchwood.

Yeah for American tv!..Loved torchwood, bummed BBC killed off all the cast. Wasn’t thrilled with Children of Earth, Looking forward to a new group of cast that hopefully will survive.

All the people talking trash about the new season aren’t true fans. How can you say something is bad before you even give it a try. As a true Doctor Who & Torchwood fan I’ll surely will be watching.

Nanny state alert!!! You all sound like a bunch of rabies! no one lives forever and same should go for torchwood. How many times have agents died on spooks? And the baby/gun scenario, please get over it! It is a movie after all and no one knows what the scenario is yet.

So a new take on Torchwood, on a premier channel to keep the humor, keeping Russel T Davies you won’t watch but if they called by a different name you probably would watch. Doctor Who is aimed towards a younger generation and quite a bit quirkier it is still Doctor Who. If it is a UK Corgi or a US Corgi I would love them the same.

I am amazed at the number of people that have made such strongly negative comments without SEEING what direction this show is going to take! Isn’t that like finding someone guilty on hear-say and without a trial?
Yes, I was upset when they killed off Tosh (pretty much MY favorite character) and Owen and all the rest of the cast except Jack and Gwen. From my prospective, Gwen is a key player from the start, and, like it or not, an important one – she was the ONLY “normal” person in the Torchwood group, right down to the gap in her teeth! She wasn’t a genius, wasn’t specially trained, had to take “danger” seriously because, unlike Jack, being killed would be a one-time deal. She was there to identify with because she was an average person who happened to stumble into a group that were definitely NOT average.
As far as holding her baby while firing a gun – for me, the jury remains out until I see WHY she was doing that. I can think of several scenarios where this action would not only be acceptable, it would be highly commendable (such as mentioned in the post by BuffyGirl above)
While I wasn’t thrilled with the “Children of the Earth” mini-series, I also understand that the purpose was to logically terminate the series.
I will definitely be giving the new Torchwood a chance to prove itself – and that means watching beyond the first episode (which I expect to be a lot of “flash and glitter” in an attempt to grab attention, just as you see in the first episode of most new series).

People are not watching Torchwood because a fictional character is holding a fake gun and shooting with her fictional child on her hip. Oh please get over your selves! It is fake, it is TV it is not real it is meant to be outlandish it is meant to be a bit crazy that is why it is called science FICTION!

I liked the Children of earth series it was very moving and very profound and well acted too. Having only seen the first episode of miracle day I cannot judge or give an opinion I will do that after watching the whole thing.

As for the sobbing and wailing about the death of former characters…. once again folks – its just make believe so put your wailing away and go and watch a reality TV show and vote for someone to come off some Island somewhere because quite clearly you take life and TV drama too seriously
