Yes, Being Human fans, it really is happening. We now have positive proof that the totally unnecessary, but potentially intriguing on its own merits, North American adaptation of the excellent UK series has actually been filmed and everything. Wishing it away didn't work.
Sam Witwer and Sam Huntington in the Syfy version of Being Human.

Syfy has posted a couple of teasers for its version of Being Human, starring Sam Witwer, Sam Huntington, Mark Pellegrino, and Meaghan Rath, which will start airing in January.
The preview makes clear that, unlike Torchwood, the transatlantic extension of which is a careful continuation of the BBC Wales original with much of the same team, the Canadian-American Being Human is just a lift of the core concept--a ghost, a vampire, and a werewolf set up housekeeping together and try to act normal-- freely adapted as necessary. So if you're thinking, watching this clip, that Sam Witwer is way too pretty to play Mitchell--that's because he isn't playing Mitchell. (Meanwhile, the Irish actor Aidan Turner, who plays Mitchell, has been cast as a dwarf in The Hobbit. So you start thinking about vampire dwarves. Mind blown yet?)
The key to watching this Being Human, I think, will be to forget about the British version while you're watching it, and see if it's okay on its own. It might well be.
That said, whatever you do, you need to watch the the British version immediately if you haven't already done so.
