This Week: Movies/DVD (Oct. 4-11)

HOME VIDEO--Out on DVD and Blu-Ray this week: A bunch of horror movies including Nightmare on Elm Street and Splice, not to mention a new release of The Exorcist. Meanwhile we're getting three new sci-fi series box sets:

Caprica Season 1.0 (2010)
This is one of those series that might benefit from DVD-style multi-episode watching: a lot more happened in the first half of season 1 than seemed to at the time. The back half of the season returns the same day as the DVD release, Oct. 5, so if you plan to catch up first, set your DVRs. Stargate Universe: Season 1.5 (2010)
Season 1 may have started out slow (which worked well in its own way, establishing the parameters of basic survival on the other side of the galaxy); but season 1.5 definitely got its adrenaline going, as the conflict between Rush and Young intensified in the face of new external threats. Medium: The Sixth Season (2009)
In season 6, the first season on CBS, Medium proves its durability while retaining just enough quirkiness to keep its formula fresh. Once Allison recovers from her surgery, Ariel gets increasing prominence as she faces maturity (and the end of high school). Features include making-of featurettes.
