Even as they're getting ready for the climactic battle between Zod and Clark set for Friday's season finale, Smallville fans in L.A. will have their own special Chloe Moment.

Legendary Women, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering positive female imagery in the media, has singled out Allison Mack and her long-enduring TV character--to the extent of putting together a professionally produced fan tribute commercial honoring them both.

"Chloe Sullivan's heroic and personal journey during Smallville represents what young, driven women can achieve through sheer tenacity and intelligence," explained organizer Margaret Bates.

The spot is slated to air twice during the 6-7pm hour on Friday, May 14, 2010, on The CW's Los Angeles affiliate, KTLA.

Allison Mack is certainly one of Smallville's survivors. The shift in tone from teen angst to sturdy superhero has left behind most of the show's original cast--in fact, out of the season 1 team of Tom Welling (Clark Kent), Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang), Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor), Eric Johnson (Whitney Fordman), Allison Mack (Chloe Sullivan), Annette O'Toole (Martha Kent), John Schneider (Jonathan Kent), John Glover (Lionel Luthor), Sam Jones III (Pete Ross), and Sarah Jane Redmond (Nell Potter), only Tom Welling and Allison Mack remain in the regular cast.

Mack has established her durability over nine long seasons, proving herself game to adapt her character from obsessive newshound to computer savant to superhero wrangler, while carefully whittling back her character's onetime naivete, leaving us with a complex young woman who's seen more than she'd have ever wanted to. Add to that that her character is, or was, noncanon in terms of Superman continuity (and therefore more expendable on paper), and Allison's feat in outlasting everyone else is even more impressive.

Scripted and funded entirely by fans and directed by Jon Michael Kondrath, the Legendary tribute is, according to its creators, a first of its kind in honoring a specific actress and character from an ongoing series. The ad highlights milestones in Chloe Sullivan's journey on Smallville, from green teen to confidante of superheroes.

The project leaders aren't satisfied with their success in getting the spot produced and local ad time paid for: they say they're looking to get other Smallville fans to help them expand the project by airing it in another market-- for example, WPIX, the New York CW affiliate, and perhaps other stations after that.

Chloe and Allison were always at the heart of Smallville, but what's remarkable is that her evolution has kept pace with the show's, so that today she's as central as ever--especially in the fans' affection. Earlier this year, Smallville fans participated in Operation: Truth & Justice, donating $3000 to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation in Allison's name.

We love Chloe (and Allison) too--so the more respect she gets, the better.

Chloe Sullivan would probably be more tolerable if she wasn’t portrayed by Allison Mack. Mack has such a huge arrogance problem that can be seen at the 2 comic cons she’s attended recently.

I can’t wait for this show to kill this character off because she really is pretty worthless. So much so that they keep “lightswitching” everything for her character’s benefit.

Chloe Sullivan is not party of mythos so I’m expecting her death to come swiftly…

Hey DevilDoll, you are one of the reasons why actors and actresses fear to visit the internet around. Go find you DevilKen and get into your DevilWorld and leave the actor in peace!!

Allison is a very terrific actress. She plays Chloe Sullivan beautifully. Allison is very unique and the art she does is amazing. She is amazing and wonderful. She is a person that brings inspiration into this world.

Thanks for the awesome write-up. I think Allison Mack’s Chloe Sullivan, and her relationship with Clark Kent, is also the heart of Smallville, and it is strangely lacking in the new season. I can’t wait to see the finished project.
