After last week's awesome high-octane premiere, which featured everything from a superfangirl to a possessed Bobby trying to kill Dean to Castiel gakking some celestial goons and standing up to Zachariah to Satan explaining that, contrary to common belief, he doesn't lie because "I don't have to," Supernatural is pushing ahead on all cylinders.

In this week's episode, new regular Castiel (yay!!) tells Sam and Dean that he is going to search for God, who will be able to defeat Lucifer. Bobby's old hunter friend, Rufus (guest star Steven Williams), is panicked about demons attacking his town, and begs Bobby for help. Sam and Dean arrive at the town and realize there is a spell over the townspeople, making them hallucinate that they are demons and causing them to kill one another. Meanwhile Sam and Dean deal with the fracture in their relationship after Dean's revelation that he no longer trusts his brother.

Supernatural spent three seasons without dealing with angels in the boys' fight against demons and other evil, and the sudden use of them last year could have been wrenched the show off its foundations. But revealing the angels as beings with an agenda totally separate from the fates of humans, and in particular doing so through the medium of Misha Collins's trenchcoated, stone-faced, puppy-eyed, totally butt-kicking Castiel, Supernatural upped its game and raised the stakes for its own future.

Here are some clips from "Good God Y'All":Supernatural is never better than when the boys are in way over their heads, and boy are they in way over their heads now.
