Dates for Summer Sci Fi: Eureka, Warehouse 13
Saturday April 25, 2009
Eureka returns to what will, by that time, be the newly christened Syfy channel with season 3.5, which picks up the story from the mid-season cliffhanger. The last we saw, back in September, Sheriff Carter had just been fired; but you know he won't be able to extricate himself that easily from the strange happenings in Eureka. The ten remaining episodes of season 3 will begin airing Friday, July 10 at 9 p.m.
The same week also sees the debut of Sci Fi/Syfy's newest series, Warehouse 13, centering on two Secret Service agents who are transferred to a mysterious top-secret storage facility in South Dakota that houses various strange objects. Clearly inspired by the closing scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and a long time in the works, Warehouse 13 is dramatic comedy intended to be part The X-Files, part Raiders, and part Moonlighting. The cast, finalized a year ago, includes Eddie McClintock, Joanne Kelly (Bianca from The Dresden Files), CCH Pounder, and Saul Rubinek (Eureka, Stargate Atlantis). (Plenty more on Warehouse to come.)
The most promising news about Warehouse 13 is that pilot was written by Rockne S. O'Bannon (who created Farscape), Battlestar Galactica co-exec producer Jane Espenson, and D. Brent Mote (who's done a handful of TV movies like Atomic Train). The 13-episode series premieres Tuesday, July 7 with the two-hour pilot at 9 p.m.
Here's the official description, in case you missed it: "After saving the life of the President, two Secret Service agents find themselves abruptly transferred to Warehouse 13 – a massive, top-secret storage facility in windswept South Dakota that houses every strange artifact, mysterious relic, fantastical object and supernatural souvenir ever collected by the U.S. government.
"The Warehouse's caretaker Artie (Saul Rubinek) assigns Pete (Eddie McClintock) and Myka (Joanne Kelly) the challenge of chasing down reports of supernatural and paranormal activity in search of new objects to store at the Warehouse. The two agents are also commissioned to help Artie control the Warehouse itself, which proves to be a task beyond what either of them could have ever imagined."
