Torchwood: Children of Earth Trailer Out

The first official trailer for the Torchwood miniseries has been released by BBC America, timed with the Torchwood presence at New York ComicCon – and it looks like a classic world-in-danger drama in the new Doctor Who mold.

The trailer for Torchwood: Children of Earth features a number of shots of Jack (John Barrowman) looking worried and of the rest of the team, Gwen (Eve Myles) and Ianto (Gareth David Lloyd) encountering explosions and other perils, but the emphasis is on increasingly eerie images of children gathering in large groups for someone else's mysterious purpose, interspersed with civil servant Mr. Frobisher (Peter Capaldi, recently featured on Doctor Who in "The Fires of Pompeii") and the grizzled Clem (Paul Copley, whom anglophiles will remember as the stalwart bosun Matthews from the Hornblower series).

Here's the current official blurb on the miniseries: "In one epic story told over five nights the new series, airing later this year on BBC America and BBC One in the UK, re-joins Captain Jack (John Barrowman), Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) and Ianto Jones (Gareth David Lloyd) who are still coming to terms with the death of two of their closest friends. Despite their pain, they have a job to do. This time they are faced with their fiercest threat to date – one which throws the future of Torchwood and the entire human race spiralling into danger. They battle against the odds but do they stand a chance of saving mankind? Torchwood is executive produced by Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner. The producer is Peter Bennett (Doctor Who)."

Two words: Can't wait.
