In the listings for this week are the season premieres of Smallville and Supernatural this week, plus new episodes of Eureka, Fringe, Primeval, Stargate Atlantis, and True Blood.

The premiere of Smallville, "Odyssey," follows up from the season 7 finale. The official capsule description: "The Justice League, led by the Green Arrow (Justin Hartley), hits the Arctic in search of Clark (Tom Welling), who disappeared after the fortress collapsed. The team immediately has a confrontation with the new CEO of Luthorcorp, Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman). Meanwhile, Chloe (Allison Mack) is being held prisoner by a suspicious group who has discovered she has a new power, and Clark has been stripped of his powers by Jor-El." Clark is stripped of his powers by Jor-El, again? Wait, whis season is this? Anyway these events are setting Clark up to start a new life leading toward standard Superman continuity – i.e., a job at the Daily Planet and partnership with Lois Lane. At the same time he's preparing to become a superhero, with the help of the JLA (Justin Hartley returns periodically through season 8).

The premiere of Supernatural, "Lazarus Rising," returns Dean from hell a little sooner than expected. Capsule description: "It's four months later and Dean (Jensen Ackles) wakes in a pine box. He's been freed from Hell. He has a joyful reunion with Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Bobby (Jim Beaver), but it isn't long before the three wonder what exactly pulled Dean from Hell and what it will want in return." The episode was written by series creator Eric Kripke, who also wrote the arresting season 3 finale. Can't wait for this one!
