What Did You Think of Fringe?

Now that J.J. Abrams's new series, Fringe, has had its premiere, what did you think? It's one of the strongest new entries in the genre in some time: high production values, big money, big ideas.

I'm looking forward to closely watching Fringe's development over the course of the season – this seems to be a show that has the ability to outgrow some of its original conceptions, as outlined by Abrams and star Joshua Jackson in a recent interview.

In my review I make some points about how the fabric of the pilot almost, but didn't quite, gel despite a number of solid positives that I liked a lot; but I'm keeping an open mind about the show. What did you think? Fringe clearly wants to be the new X-Files, among other things – does it succeed in that, or is it charting a different course?

I LOVED Fringe. Sure, it had its uneven points - but I think it’s something new and some critics are calling it “uneven” when in reality, it’s a new animal. The insertion of humor at various points threw me, but I think once viewers get used to it, it’ll be appreciated for what it is. I thought the story was very compelling, and the acting was great. My favorite character is the female lead. She’s tough, yet vulnerable. She’s multidimensional - not something you see in woman characters very often. Overall, VERY impressive. I felt I had watched something very high quality, and VERY interesting. I have set my DVR to record every episode as I cannot wait to see what happens next!

I watched it because I am a fan of Josh J from DC days …. and because I enjoy SiFi

I enjoyed the pilot and will watch it again to see how the characters develop individualy and how the 3 work together … Walter is very interesting and Olivia is a no nonsense get to the bottom of it .. lady …

I liked Fringe, yes. Personally, I think the interjection of humor into the darker, weirder mix makes it better. It’s a strong start to what, if handled well, could very well be something as big as X-files was. But, I also agree with a previous comment in that this feels a little like a new animal. Or, if not entirely new, then perhaps a very good evolutionary step forward from the pre-existing animals.
