The season 4 finale of Stargate Atlantis is tonight, Friday, March 7 on Sci Fi. The episode, "The Last Man," is certainly worth catching: Sheppard returns to Atlantis after an off-world mission searching for Teyla, who was kidnapped by the evil Wraith hybrid Michael, and finds the city abandoned and shut down – and instead of ocean, sand dunes as far as the eye can see. Sheppard is greeted by the hologram of an aged Rodney McKay and discovers that he has been taken 40,000 years into the future. As the last man in the city, he must uncover why all this happened and figure out how to make things right.

In advance of the finale I got to talk with David Hewlett, who plays Rodney McKay, and it could not have been more fun. Hewlett is sharp and has a great, dry sense of humor, and is constantly ribbing both himself and his character. In addition to insight into the season 4 finale, Hewlett dropped a few hints about season 5, and was quite at ease talking about McKay's hang-ups and his own amazement at being a sci-fi fan who somehow got inside, a "spy in the house of cool."
