With Battlestar Galactica's season premiere now scheduled for April 4, we've still got six weeks to distract ourselves. Fortunately, for an industry crippled by a months-long writers' strike, there's a lot of stuff happening on TV over the next few weeks that's worth looking into. (Plus two major sci-fi/fantasy feature films open in theaters this week – watch for my reviews on Wednesday.)

This week's highlights include:
  • Jericho has its long-awaited season premiere on Tuesday (10 p.m. on CBS). More on that tomorrow!
  • Yet another awesome episode of Supernatural, as Dean and Sam get stuck in a twisted and deadly time loop ("Mystery Spot," Thu. at 9 p.m. on The CW). This show keeps getting better, which is kinda bittersweet considering the last new episode, "Jus in Bello," airs next week. Last week's episode, "Dream a Little Dream of Me," with its intense Dean-versus-Dean encounter, totally rocked.
  • Cool guest stars this week include the hugely watchable Brian Austin Green, in a multi-episode arc as an enigmatic stranger on Sarah Connor Chronicles (Mon. at 10 p.m. on Fox) and Christopher Judge, returning as Teal'c from Stargate SG-1 on Stargate Atlantis (Fri. at 10 p.m. on Sci Fi). Thanks to rotating absences and a shamefully prolonged inability to make Samantha Carter seem the slightest bit interesting or involved, Atlantis has not been the most exciting show on TV lately (am I alone in thinking that last week's episode, "Trio," which involved Carter, McKay, and Dr. Keller climbing up things and then falling off of them for forty minutes, was colossally boring?). But "Midway," which involves Ronon and Teal'c butting heads before stomping some Wraith, looks promising.
  • A key confrontation on Smallville when a busboy, holding Lois and amnesiac Kara hostage, shoots Lex; Clark, finally giving up on his future nemesis, refuses to let Chloe heal him ("Fracture," Thu. at 8 p.m. on The CW).
  • And don't forget Sunday's TV movie revamp/pilot for Knight Rider, now co-starring Val Kilmer (and yes, David Hasselhoff does cameo). It's on Sunday at 9 p.m. on NBC.

I can’t wait for this episode even though I don’t think I’m going to like the idea of Dean dying over and over again. However I’m confident that Kripke will make it work. And I’m sure Sam will come to the rescue in the end.
