Torchwood's season 2 (premieres Saturday, Jan. 26 on BBC America) features aliens and sex as usual, but there's more to it than that.

The fun presence of James Marsters, known for playing both Spike on Buffy and Angel and Milton Fine/Brainiac on Smallville (where he's about to resurface, in fact), is improved on by the fact that his character represents something to the enigmatic central character, Jack Harkness: the fact that Jack isn't the man he was.

(1) Ross Todhunter says:

C’mon - this series of Torchwood is duller than watching the proverbial paint dry. Incredibly hackneyed plots half-borrowed from thirties horror movies, naff special effects but worst of all - endless over-emotional wailing. In one episode I thought the characters would never stop crying. Just embarassing and damaging to the core Doctor Who franchise.
