Yatta! 2007 Emmy Nods for Masi Oka, Heroes, Galactica

The 2007 Primetime Emmy nominations extend recognition to two of the best sci-fi/fantasy shows out there at the moment, Heroes and Battlestar Galactica, including nods for writing, directing, acting (well, one – Masi Oka) and even best drama (Heroes) as well as the more expected "technical" nominations.

So am I entitled to be annoyed that only these two were nominated, while the usual suspects dominate the presige awards, or should I be grateful they were recognized? I'm not sure, but it does feel like slotting Heroes in at the top of the list makes the absense of genre shows from most of the rest of the ballot all the more stark. Still the real burning question is: Will Oka emulate his character by throwing his fists in the air and screaming Yatta! (“I did it!”) when he wins?

Meanwhile Oka is not only a freshly minted Emmy nominee – he's also nominated as a Teen Choice (can one man be both?) along with three of his costars and the show itself. Also up are various stars from Smallville, Supernatural, and Kyle XY. The Teen Choice Awards tend to like sci-fi and fantasy a lot more than the Emmy folks – but then some would say that teen life is all about fantasy.
